Long rumored to be a contender, state Sen. Leticia Van de Putte has now made it official: She is running for lieutenant governor.
“I want to be your lieutenant governor because Mama ain’t happy — because Texas, we can do better,” Van de Putte said in a roughly 25-minute speech Saturday that touched heavily on the importance of family in her life.
EmpowerTexans Newsletter – November 24, 2013
In 1789 a Thanksgiving Day proclamation was issued by President George Washington. As we pause for this Thanksgiving 224 years later, his words serve as a valuable reminder of our heritage and the source of our national strength. He wrote that Americans must “acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits” that include “the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed.” Washington urged his countrymen to “unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations.“ Hopefully we will all remember to do such this week between family, football and feasting. Might I suggest that we also each pray for strength in the fight? Because a fight is upon us, have no doubt. Texas is a battleground… but not only with liberal Democrats in November. But first, Ross Kecseg reminded us this week about the burden of too much government. Feeding Frenzy Continue reading “EmpowerTexans Newsletter – November 24, 2013” |

QUOTING… “Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction.” — Ronald Reagan |
During the spring legislative session, Democrats successfully legitimized the illegitimate profession of ObamaCare ‘navigator’ into state law with the help of Republicans. Thanks to filmmaker James O’Keefe, we now know for sure some of those same navigators are shilling for leftist causes while encouraging fraud.
Meanwhile, a candidate for lieutenant governor is woefully misrepresenting the “FiscalResponsibility Index” record of one of his opponents.
I’ll get to those in a second.

Good morning from New Orleans.
I’m on my bachelor party.
As Joe Kane said in The Program (1993), “Let’s put the women and children to bed and go looking for dinner boys.”
As such, this will be a short brief.

Fifty years is a relative blip on the grand timeline, barely a rounding error between your genesis point and the end of life as we know it. Yet in human terms, 50 years is longer than many life spans, past and present.

Good morning from Austin.
Here’s the (short) brief:
NYT EDITORIAL BOARD WEIGHS IN ON LEGAL CHALLENGE TO TEXAS ABORTION LAW
Here’s The New York Times editorial:
In an alarming 5-to-4 ruling, the Supreme Court turned away an emergency application to block a new Texas law that is impeding access to safe and legal abortion care in the state. The ruling leaves in place an order by the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit that allowed the law go into effect while it considers an appeal.
The Texas law requires doctors who perform abortions to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital. A federal district judge, Lee Yeakel, ruled last month that this provision serves no medical purpose and improperly infringes on women’s reproductive rights. The requirement forces a third of Texas’ abortion doctors to stop offering the procedure. Judge Yeakel issued an injunction blocking the provision, which a three-judge panel of the appellate court promptly lifted.
