Meanwhile, The News’ “news”
*[GOP] Candidate cashes in on own loan, p. 3A – My — from where, oh where, did this story come? A 14-year-old, perfectly legal loan to his own campaign by a Republican state rep somehow makes it into Sunday’s DMN — as something sinister. To supposedly be fair, DMN Dem scribe David Barer says he’s is not the only one. Barer notes two others — both Republicans! Hahahahahaha! It’s all part of The News’Turning Texas Blue series, folks. (Stay tuned!) … DMN Dem scribe David Barer admits early on, “It’s legal, as long as candidates properly disclose the activity to the state.” Rep. Miller did. “Texas politicians are allowed to lend money to their political campaigns, reimburse themselves with political contributions and collect interest.” So, no story? Wrong. Baber enlists Craig McDonald, of the left-wing Texans for Public Justice, to raise ethical concerns. As is The News’ practice, Barer ID‘s TPJ as simply “a campaign finance watchdog group.” (Lookin’ out for you!!)
*Food-stamp diets hurting the poor, Health crisis in South Texas, WashPo, p. 29 – So it’s the food-stamps’ fault? (I’ve heard it all now, friends.) … CliffsNotes: Illegal immigration has turned swaths of South Texas into Northern Mexico, complete with raging poverty and societal collapse. Doling out record stacks of food stamps is no longer enough — individual policing of eating habits is now required. Oh – and though getting free food and medical care, these folks still have to “stretch” their budgets – they’re still poor – and “stretching” is bad. The fix? Make them $poor$ no more – then closely monitor their eating. Got it? … Fun facts buried here: “the fastest-growing market in America [is] the food stamp market.” (Read that again.) “The country’s hungriest region is its most overweight …”. (“It would be so nice if something made sense for a change” — Alice in Wonderland.) And — illegal immigration has helped make “Hildalgo County one of the fastest growing places in America[!]” (A Chamber of Commerce bullet-point, fer sure!)
*Man gets death in rape accuser’s killing, p. 1B – Missing Editor’s Note: The Dallas Morning News opposes the death penalty in all cases – no exceptions. (That, of course, includes sparing the life of this maggot-slug who stepped on a young girl’s throat to stop her breathing.) In fact, you’ll find in all our reporting and editorializing on the subject we’re doing our dead-level best to end the practice completely in Texas. We know best. We’re trained journalists.
