What is the North Texas Citizens Lobby about? Let’s explore the NTCL principles one at a time:
Our governments derive their limited powers from ‘we the people’ for the purpose of protecting the individual’s life, liberty, and property and for the defense from foreign invasion.
Principle one comes from what I consider to be the most important document in the history of our country, the Declaration of Independence. The main points are to define what the proper role of governments of free people are, and where their power originates.
Each government entity shall practice fiscal responsibility and accountability.
Principle two applies to all branches and levels of government, from the United States President, down to the local dog catcher. Every level and every branch should operate with honesty and integrity, especially when dealing with public finances.
Individuals are responsible for the actions of the elected officials and therefore must be informed and involved.
At the close of the Constitutional Convention of 1787, Benjamin Franklin was asked what type of government they created. His answer was, “A Republic, if you can keep it.” He knew the only chance of a system like this surviving would be the diligent involvement of individuals. This wisdom is the basis for principle number three.
Perhaps there should be a fourth principle that addresses the responsibility of every citizen; for this is ultimately where our form of government is being destroyed.
A republican form of government is dependent upon civic participation. Our’s is also only designed for a moral people, which is the missing link today.
